Asus EEE ultra mobile laptop
Tuesday, November 13th, 2007I read a fair few reviews and specs about this machine that is being released in the UK over the next few days.
Looks like the cheap ultra mobile revolution is just starting ! I’ve always had to shell out £1500 every 2 years for a laptop in this weight bracket.
Key Points
- 0.9 Kg !
- 4gig Solid State Disk(SSD) disk with hdparm yielding results around the 22-25MBs mark, with is faster that my vaio TR1MP.
- 512Meg DDR2 upgradable to 2Gig (2 Gig £46inc,1 Gig £16inc).
- SD/SDHC card slot (Yes these bad boys go up to 32gig).
- Near silent, it does have a fan in there somewhere.
- Debian Linux based, boots in 15seconds but you can install windows if you wish.
- Great out of the box as a simple web browsing machine.
- Wired and Wireless B/G.
- CPU 900Mhz celeron however Asus will be shipping it using the new Intel meron early 2008.
- Slot for upgrading the on board SSD.
- Might be well worth waiting until mid next year to get the meron.
- Despite the pictures this is NOT a toy.

The Bad
- 800×480 screen resolution does not cut it for me.
- Might wait for it to meron based with absolutely no fans on board.
